U.S. District Judge Jessica Clarke in Manhattan sentenced Lewis, who pleaded guilty in January to one count of conspiracy and two counts of securities fraud. “This is an extremely undemocratic way to harm access to reproductive health care," said Sofia Tomov, operations coordinator with Access Reproductive Care Southeast, a member of the Mississippi Abortion Access Coalition. The proposal comes days after a Missouri abortion-rights campaign launched its ballot measure effort aiming to enshrine abortion rights into the state constitution. Missouri abortion rights groups also have criticized Republican Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, saying he is attempting to impede the initiative by manipulating the measure's ballot summary. Ohio abortion rights advocates have said last year’s statewide vote to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution was as much about abortion as it was a referendum on democracy itself. After Ohio voters approved the abortion protections last year, Republican lawmakers pledged to block the amendment from reversing the state's restrictions.

At the beginning of this year, she started hearing an eerie hum that got louder at night. Virginia has had explosive growth in data centers since the early 2000s, when Loudoun County started allowing data centers to be built. Loudoun County residents say the noise started this past winter and gets louder at night when it's cooler. In Loudoun County, residents said they could hear the data center even with their windows closed. Unlike previous data centers, the new ones use so-called free air cooling , designed to leverage lower temperatures to use less electricity than most data centers.

Among those who received a basic income in Stockton, California, the unemployment rate dropped by nearly 50%. With more data at hand than theoretical projection, the evidence is overwhelming: Universal basic income is working nearly universally. Here the girlhood parallels move beyond the facetious to acquire a darker quality, as shame begins to erode Oppenheimer’s sense of self. The great Oppenheimer realizes that no amount of personal brilliance can counter the force of the state. Near the film’s end, Oppenheimer silently reckons with visions of what his brilliance has wrought: unimaginable suffering and fire as the invention he fathered wipes out civilization itself. For a Great Man like him, it took the twin shames of the bomb’s destruction and public disgrace to have this life-altering yet basic realization about his own powerlessness. This is a rule and a warning that life has drilled into girls from age 13, if not sooner.

CNN —James Lewis, who was convicted of extortion for promising to stop the 1982 Tylenol poisonings for $1 million – but denied he was behind the seven deaths, has been found dead, police said Monday. The Massachusetts man served time for sending Johnson & Johnson a letter in 1982 vowing he’d stop the killings that set off panic. The unsolved Chicago-area deaths occurred after the over-the-counter Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules were laced with potassium cyanide. Johnson & Johnson, parent of the drug maker, McNeil, was credited for its aggressiveness in recalling the product and its openness in dealing with the killings, and the product quickly bounced back in sales. No one has been charged in the deaths, but Lewis was under periodic police attention.

Most rock bios begin with 30 or 40 pages on their subjects’ early years and end with a look at what is often a retirement marked by neglect and what-ifs. Not this one. With “Leon Russell: The Master of Space and Time’s Journey Through Rock & Roll History,” Bill Janovitz gets right down to business, as did his subject: one of the most electrifying stage performers of his day, a chart-topping recording artist, and a singer/songwriter/keyboardist/guitarist/producer who worked with a pantheon that included many of the rock, pop, and country stars of our time. Leon Russell went to work early and never stopped. F1 stewards exempt Hamilton after 'disfigurement' fear

MANAMA, March 3 (Reuters) - Formula One stewards exempted Lewis Hamilton from a jewellery ban at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix on Friday after accepting he risked disfigurement if a nose piercing was removed. Hamilton, 38, has worn a permanent nose stud in his left nostril for years and photographs in Bahrain have shown him also with one on the right. He explained at last October's Singapore Grand Prix, when he was also given an exemption, that taking the left one out had caused the piercing to become infected. The stewards in Bahrain said in a statement they had consulted the FIA medical delegate who examined Hamilton and agreed with the request for a continued exemption. "We have determined to take no further action as there are concerns about disfigurement with frequent attempts at removal of the device," the stewards explained.
Among these are equities’ positive January performance, a "golden cross" chart pattern on the S&P 500 and more stocks making new highs rather than new lows. Such signals are far from the only indicators market participants use to make investment decisions, and they are not foolproof. JANUARY JUMPThe S&P 500 rose 6.2% in January, driven in part by hopes that the Fed will be able to contain surging inflation without badly damaging the economy. GOLDEN CROSSMeanwhile, chart watchers noted that the S&P 500’s 50-day moving average rose above its 200-day moving average on Thursday, a pattern known as a golden cross. However, when a golden cross has appeared as the 200-day moving average is declining - as it is now - the average 12-month return for the S&P 500 jumps to 16.8%.
